Here at The Glebe NS we took part in the Ballinasloe Christmas Jumper Day. We proudly raised one hundred and thirteen euro for Galway Hospice and Ballinasloe Social Services. Well done to all the children and didn’t they look great!!
Science Week
Last week for Science Week we had great fun in the Junior classroom exploring and completing various experiments. Some of the experiments included; making a rainbow in a jar, creating invisible ink, making a rain cloud and we even made our own delicious butter. The children also enjoyed working in pairs using the Lego WeDo kit to improve their construction and coding skills. Some of the older pupils completed some research on a famous scientist of their choice and presented it to the rest of the class. Lastly, we ended the week by taking part in a stem challenge where the children again worked in pairs to make a paper chain as long as they could using only one sheet of paper. We had a great week and look forward to Science Week 2022!
Lego Coding
This week, the pupils were busy building and coding a Lego Boost car and robot for Maths week. They worked cooperatively following step by step directions on the iPads and then were given time to explore coding the two builds and then on Friday we set up a circuit. The pupils had to create a string of code to navigate ‘Robbo’ around. There were some bugs but the class were very good at using the code to create angles and problem solving any problems that arose.
Autumn
The past number of weeks the pupils in the Junior Room have been learning all about autumn. We have been creating beautiful autumnal art, going on autumn walks and learning all about the seasonal changes. During Aistear the children enjoyed creating hibernation stations. Some of the children brought in some lovely colourful leaves and nests to use during these lessons.
Green-Schools
The school received our Green Flag Award for our Water theme project. The Senior Room pupils attended a virtual awards ceremony with special guests and surprises on Thursday 14th of October. The classes have worked making posters, reading the water meters, checking for leaks, calculating water usage, learning about the importance of water and how to conserve it at home. Well Done to the Green-Schools committee and all the pupils for their hard work.
Rectory Garden
Our classes have been very busy this year in the Rectory Garden and the Climate Action Park. They harvested strawberries and tomatoes and als0 helped bag other fruit and vegetables for the Harvest Celebration. The pupils in the Senior Room brought a selection of their harvest down to John Burke’s shop. We visited the Climate Action Park for Muddy Church with Revered John.
